How long weekends are calculated

A long weekend forms whenever a public holiday falls on a Friday or a Monday, giving a 3-day weekend. It runs longer when holidays stack — Good Friday plus Easter Monday gives four days — and only statutory days off count, never days that are merely customary. All of these need no annual leave.

A Dutch public holiday is not automatically a paid day off — that depends on the cao.

A long weekend forms whenever a public holiday falls on a Friday or a Monday, giving a 3-day weekend, without using any annual leave.
